Teachers' Remarks IV|Yiqiu CHEN: Explore the World, Read Extensively, and Let Time Shape Your Values and Worldviews

November 21,2024 Stories

Explore the world, read extensively, and let time shape your values and worldviews. — Yiqiu CHEN

The "Art Lighthouse Project" embarks on a new chapter, with esteemed faculties from across divisions joining this season's Teachers' Remarks IV interview series. This edition features distinguished faculty members who bring profound insights, accomplished backgrounds, and inspiring musical talent to the forefront of music education. Their words of wisdom and experiences will motivate students to explore the vast world of music and find their own direction.

"When it comes to students, I hope they develop the ability to practice independently. This is crucial because, as the saying goes, 'Give someone a fish, and you feed them for a day; teach them to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.' My role as a teacher is to guide students in mastering effective practice methods rather than merely demonstrating technical skills during lessons. The ultimate goal is to help them identify problems independently and find ways to solve them—this capability is key."

In this episode, we're honored to feature Ms. Yiqiu CHEN, Lecturer of Strings, Wind, Brass, and Percussion at the School of Music, CUHK-Shenzhen. Ms. CHEN shares her profound insights on how young people can cultivate positive values and a meaningful outlook on life during their university years. She also recounts her unforgettable journey of studying abroad, her enriching experiences as a student and educator at Yale University, and the invaluable lessons she gained along the way. Moreover, Ms. CHEN delves into her distinctive teaching philosophy, emphasizing the importance of fostering self-sufficient learning habits. She highlights the irreplaceable role of chamber music in developing a successful string career. Join us as we explore Ms. CHEN's thoughts and experiences and gain inspiration from her approach to music education and personal growth.
