Teachers' Remarks IV|XU Xiaoyu: Take Your Time, Walk Each Step with Determination, and Time Will Reveal the Answers
Take your time, walk each step with determination, and time will reveal the answers. — XU Xiaoyu
The "Art Lighthouse Project" embarks on a new chapter, with esteemed faculties from across divisions joining this season's Teachers' Remarks IV interview series. This edition features distinguished faculty members who bring profound insights, accomplished backgrounds, and inspiring musical talent to the forefront of music education. Their words of wisdom and experiences will motivate students to explore the vast world of music and find their own direction.
"While we spend countless hours absorbing knowledge, we must also cultivate a sense of pause—a rest, as in musical notation. Why? Just as a rest in music segments different expressions, it often brings a dramatic structure, allowing listeners to grasp what the composer leaves unsaid. In the same way, we should also turn inward, pausing to reflect with a critical mindset, revisiting what we have learned to forge a unique conducting style of our own."
In this episode, we have the pleasure of welcoming Ms. XU Xiaoyu, our esteemed lecturer and collaborative piano faculty from the Conducting Division, School of Music, CUHK-Shenzhen. Ms. XU discusses how she developed her optimistic outlook and values during her university years, offering insights into the distinctive approach to teaching in the conducting classroom compared to other disciplines. She also reflects on the relationship between conducting students and collaborative piano faculty from her perspective and shares valuable advice for conducting students on mastering their core subjects. Join us for Ms. XU's inspiring reflections and expert guidance!
